John is currently the President/CEO of COHANE REALTY ADVISORS, a boutique commercial real estate company established by John in 2002, mainly to serve the shopping-center industry. The company strives to offer customer service and personalized programs so compelling that each client will remain a client for life. The company is currently focused on investment sales, primarily with high net worth individuals interested in buying safe retail property investments that provide a stable cash flow and passive income. It also seeks out value-added retail opportunities across Florida for more experienced retail shopping center owner/developers who have the staff and time necessary to bring these properties up to their highest and best use and realize their true income potential.
Over the last 30 years, John has been very active in tenant representation and shopping-center leasing. His company has represented tenants including Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Catherine’s, David’s Bridal, Priscilla of Boston, Cacique, Rainbow Shops, Sal’s Italian Ristorante, Max’s Grille and Five Guys. For 14 years John worked with the SWERDLOW REAL ESTATE GROUP, one of South Florida’s premier shopping center developers. During his tenure there, John was a key player in developing and executing leasing strategies for a portfolio of eight major shopping centers ranging in size from 250,000 sf to 1,000,000 sf and including properties such as Millennia Plaza (Orlando), Oakwood Plaza (Hollywood), Hollywood Hills Plaza (Hollywood), Kendall Lakes Plaza (Kendall), Cross County Plaza (West Palm Beach), Sheridan Plaza (Hollywood), Las Olas Riverfront and Cypress Creek Station (both in Fort Lauderdale). Since launching his own firm, John has been involved with the leasing of the Landings at Tradition (Port St Lucie), Miracle Marketplace (Miami), Harbor Shops and Imperial Square (Fort Lauderdale). During his career, John has closed over 450 lease transactions.
John is a graduate of Providence College, Providence, RI and is a long standing member of the International Conference of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He received its prestigious professional CLS (Certified Leasing Specialist) designation in 2000 and the SCLS (Senior Certified Leasing Specialist) standing in 2006. John has been an ICSC panelist on several occasions, speaking on topics such as “How to negotiate a landlord’s lease” and “Why certain lease provisions are important”. John has also been a Florida Licensed Real Estate Broker for over 25 years
In 2013 John received the sought after CRX designation from the ICSC which is only given to senior shopping center executives with at least fifteen years (15) of service in the shopping center industry.
